Federal authorities has entered the fray in a legal challenge initiated by California Republicans, aiming to halt the California's newly approved congressional redistricting map.
This court case, submitted to a US district court, targets the redistricting plan championed by the state's Democratic governor, which was created in response to a Republican-led gerrymander in Texas.
"California's redistricting scheme represents a blatant attempt to seize control that violates civil rights and undermines the democratic process," stated the US attorney general.

"These opponents were defeated in the election and they are likely to also lose in court," stated a spokesperson for Governor Newsom.
